Focusing primarily on film influenced by the Northwest (including Idaho, Montana, and Alaska) the goal of the center is to promote film as an art form and provide education for aspiring filmmakers.
Originally founded as the Northwest Film Study Center in 1971, the center was incorporated in the Portland Art Museum seven years later. At the Northwest Film Center, visitors will find a cornerstone of the city's art scene and a year-round instrument in promoting local film.
